Recruiting

Recruiting areas, Nipissing and Sudbury. Mobilization HQ was North Bay, Ontario. The 228th Battalion served in Canada from March 6, 1916.

The battalion had a brass band of thirty-four, five buglers and a pipe band consisting of seven pipers and three drummers. Its march past was 'The Highland Laddie'.

Some players joined the 228th Battalion perhaps hoping to avoid front-line service overseas.

The unit was disbanded in 1920.
